Our bedroom is on the third floor of the building, reached by a walled-in spiral staircase. It has an issue common to attic rooms everywhere: the steeply sloping walls ensure most furniture will be too tall. To compensate, our bed is close to the floor, and low shelves hold the clothes that won't fit in the closet.

Beck found the Indian-style light that hangs over our bed in a small shop in Australia. The ersatz headboard is a $3 piece of fabric from Bargain World, and the round mirrors on either side of the bed are leftover coasters from a catering event.

Since we couldn't paint this room, we added colour by stretching red fabric over one wall.
