How to use up old CDs

Attempt 2

After my first attempt at using old CDs to tile the outside of an old tin, I wanted to make something less flashy for my next tin-beautification project. I covered my second attempt using decoupage with CD pieces as accent. The pattern I came up with was inspired by the Indian-style lamp that hangs over my bed.

Homemade crafty decoupaged tin, in an Indian-style I went through some old magazines and cut out pieces that were solid teal or solid yellow, then Mod Podged the yellow paper into a diamond shape and added red and orange borders. Most of those pieces were from the rug section of an old Ikea catalogue. When the diamonds were dry, I glued them onto the tin in a harlequin pattern, putting a layer of Mod Podge over the top as well to seal everything. After that dried, I filled in the border triangles with blue paper.

I also cut out mirrored circles, one for the center of alternating blue triangles and one for the middle of every diamond. I glued the CD pieces in place with Mod Podge and let it dry. Then, using a pot of metallic silver paint, I painted lines radiating from each CD circle.

Then, using an old orange shirt that had once belonged to my aunt Jacque, I lined the inside of the tin. I just cut the shirt into strips then used a hot-glue gun to hold it in place. I put down a few layers so that it would be cushioned.
