How to reconstruct a t-shirt into a tank-top

Beck modeling the original Spider t-shirt

My friend Descie's dad gave me a shirt from the company where he works (Spider Staging). I loved the design, but it was way too big for me. So, after getting ideas from craftster's sewing forum, and planning a design pattern in Photoshop, I cut the original t-shirt up and sewed it back together into a form-fitting tank-top.

As you can see in the picture to the right, the original Spider t-shirt was way too big and not at all flattering.

I measured my favourite tank top to see how wide and how long all the pieces were, then used those measurements to figure out where to cut the original t-shirt.

How to sew the front and back pieces together

First, I sewed the triangles onto the square with the spider logo on it. If I knew more about sewing, I would have made darts in the triangles so that it fit my chest better...but my skills aren't that advanced yet. Then I sewed the inside-out front and back together using a simple pillow stitch, slightly curved to fit my body.

Then, after I had a tube of fabric, I sewed on straps. Real pictures to come...
